  • SparklingTraditional-method sparkling, Prosecco 2 bottles
  • Light red or roséPinot noir, Barbera, Gutturnio, Chiaretto 2 bottles
  • Full-bodied redNebbiolo, Sangiovese riserva, Aglianico 2 bottles
  • Sweet wineMoscato d’Asti, passito 1 bottle

In the Beviamolo app, “What shall we eat?” picks these wines from the bottles in your own cellar.

These quantities are for planning the shopping, not for drinking more. And whoever drives does not drink.

How it is worked out

A 0.75-litre bottle fills six 125 ml glasses. For a dinner the calculator counts one glass per person for each course, and half a glass for dessert, which is served in a smaller glass; if your guests drink less, or more, change the glasses per course.

Courses served with the same style of wine add up: red meat and cheese, for example, both go to full-bodied red. Each style is rounded up to a whole bottle, and the 10% margin keeps you from running short: whatever is left over stays in the cellar.

For drinks or a party without a menu it counts the glasses per person for the whole evening, split between sparkling, white and red.

Which wine to serve with each course

The classic pairings the calculator starts from. They are general guidance: the dish, how it is cooked and your guests’ tastes matter more than the rule.
